Specialized Search Engines

Specialized search engines work slight differently as compare to normal search engines. In case of general search engines you submit site URL without any categorization, but specialized search engines index pages for particular topics only and due to which there are numerous pages that cannot be found in general search engines but only in specialized ones. It has focused or targeted Web crawler that looks for and provides access to matter on a specific subject or domain from stuff found on the Web. So, we can say that it’s combination of directory and Search engine.

Specialized Search Engine = Directory + Search Engine

Good factors of SSE are-

1. SSE is the latest and advanced version of general and well known term of SE. So, it has come out with some Interesting and Differentiating term in Search Engine.

2. Some content accessible from specialized engines is also available from general engines like Google or AltaVista or Yahoo, but using specialized SE tools can help to limit your search. So, it’s directly proportional to the saving in “Search time consumption”.

3. Specialized SE can help you identify more relevant and useful content. Even if every search engine contained the indistinguishable data you would still see different results, even using the same search strategy. And this is because each search engine uses a different page-ranking algorithm. Therefore, SSE will definitely expand your search’s utility.

4. There are some Specialized tools which can provide rapid re-crawl (the crawler returns in some cases every few minutes/hours), providing new content to the database that you search. But in case of General search engines they are weeks behind in crawling and making newly identified content reachable to searchers.

I think that specialized search engines are not that numeric as directories and general SE. I have list of some Specialized Search Engines.
